16 Jan 1988 Murder of Shirley Janet Peirce (Barthel)
« on: July 12, 2010, 11:06:03 PM »
I wonder if this murder is solved. I have tried and tried to find any article or obituary, but no luck. This is my dad's first cousin. I don't live in TX, but I tried the Houston Chronicle's archives without luck.

Shirley Janet Peirce (Barthel) was murdered in the Houston area in January 1988. We never heard if anyone was ever caught. I was under the impression someone broke into her house.

Shirley Janet Barthel  born 9 or 11 Oct 1935, Harris County, TX
died Houston, TX  16 Jan 1988 age 52 when murdered
Mother: Anna Lena Worendel
Father: Eddy Barthel

She served in the Navy and is buried at Houston National Cemetery in Houston.

Would you be able to tell me if this is an unsolved murder still? If someone was caught, is there any public info?
Patty

Sadly, it is kind of hard to learn that unless you go to the police station or pay a PI. After 22 years, there is not going to be much on the itnernet.

Since I live in Delaware, I wrote the Houston PD. The crime is unsolved. I asked if it could be reopened, and I asked for the public information page they have. If anyone has any idea where I can find an obituary for my cousin, I'd appreciate it. It was not online at the Chronicle site. You'd think a murder would at least make the paper.

Sadly that is not always the case.

There is a site called newspapers archives that might have the old houston paper. something might be listed there.

I hope you are successful. And if you have any details to add to the thread, please send it in case someone else finds it and can help.
