W Russell Martin Jr.
« on: July 07, 2010, 05:24:53 PM »
W Russell Martin Jr. was hit January 30, 1979 by a 1979 model Silver General Motors vehicle at about 6:15 am along the side of a houston freeway while jogging. He was the Vice President of a Broadcast Hardware company; MZB and Associates, of Addison, Texas. His company supplied Television Station KHOU with audio and video equipment.

He was jogging with a company employee who was 10 years younger and faster than Mr. Martin. The employee waited for Mr. Martin at their Hotel. Martin never arrived. The employee back tracked along the route and found Mr Martin with fatal injuries laying next to the road. His shoes were found many yards away. Houston Police investigated the incident for an unknown amount of time and after KHOU and WFAA (Dallas, Tx ABC TV Affiliate) offered a substantial award for information, no one ever came forward.

I'm the only survivor in the Martin family and I was hoping for a hit in the dark after all these years. I've been in contact with the Texas Rangers and the Houston Poice on several occasions with no success in gaining information.

W.Russell Martin Jr. was my Dad. He died at 45 years old.

I'm very sorry about your father. This is a very sad incident. I assume this happened in 1979? Do you know which month and where about on the freeway this happened? Hopefully someone out there who may remember something will come forward.

The time would have been near 6:00 am. That was his habit for years. The exact location is unknown to me but I'm sure the Houston Police documented the area with photos. Dealing with them has been nothing but total frustration. I know the hotel he stayed in would have been a nice place very clost to the KHOU television studios. He was to deliver a broadcast van to the Station later that morning.

Thanks for asking. Your response is the second in about ten years, the first being a representitive of the Texas Rangers a few years ago.
