The Houston Police Department is asking for help solving a triple-murder that occurred 25 years ago. Someone killed three women at their real estate office near Memorial and Highway Six the night Hurricane Alicia made landfall.
"The big problem is it's 25 years later," says Sergeant Mike Peters, who works in HPD's Cold Case Unit. "Evidence degrades. Witnesses' memories fade. A lot of people just want to put things behind them, and they don't want to tell us what happened back then."
Peters says the family of one of the victims contacted investigators and asked them to take another look at the case.
Investigators say Elizabeth Shumate, Joanna Brown and Frances Ivey were shot execution-style. Witnesses say a man entered the office about closing time. Police say Shumate was talking on the phone when the man entered, and the person on the other end of the line told police she heard a man's voice and could tell something was wrong.
Police developed a sketch of the murderer but never identified a suspect.
