Cheryl Lynn Henry, 22 and Garland Andrew (Andy) Atkinson, 21, were found by officers Aug. 22, 1990, in a wooded area near Enclave Parkway, according to an official Houston Police Department statement. Both had died at the scene from stab wounds to the throat, and autopsy results confirmed Henry had been sexually assaulted.
Investigators were able to match DNA at the Enclave Parkway scene with DNA from a sexual assault incident that occurred in the 7800 block of Terra Cotta June 20, 1990, according to the statement.
Henry and her sister met Atkinson at Bayou Mama's nightclub on Westheimer at South Gessner on the night they died, according to the statement. Neither Henry nor Atkinson was seen the next day, and a missing person’s report was filed for both of them with the Houston Police Department.
Later that day, the two were found by a security guard conducting random patrols, according to the statement. Atkinson was found tied to and sitting next to a tree, about 100 yards away from Henry.
The suspect's actions in the Terra Cotta attack and what is known from Enclave Parkway are similar, according to the statement; however, the victim in the Terra Cotta incident robbed and sexually assaulted, but in Enclave Parkway neither victim was robbed.
The suspect is described only as a white male in his mid-30's, 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds, according to the statement. He has brown hair, a possible mustache and was wearing a dark shirt and pants similar to a work uniform.
Anyone with information on either attack or related incidents is urged to contact Officer Michael Miller of the HPD Homicide Division Cold Case Squad at 713-308-3600.
